The Splurd Network is an expirmental project by the artists of Studio Splurd. The idea of the project is to build a community for independant artists that encourages free speech, empowers creativity and enables self publication and distribution. We've got a few ideas of our own how to go about this, but if you're reading this, you probably have some ideas of your own. We'd like to hear from you.
It all started as a side project on splurd.com sometime around 2002. The web-comic listing service "SplurdLink" was quite successful with a small but strong community, until a server move caused database errors. SplurdLink came back a few years later as Splurd.net, but the advent of multiple web-comic listing services stunted the community's rebirth, and the service went down once again with the sale of splurd's then-hosting company Fuitadnet. Since then, Splurd.net has sat idle and lonely.
First, we're going to get a message board up so people can start chatting. We'd like to know what independent artist, writers, musicians and game-makers would like out of a community. We plan on making a store to sell our own self-published work, and we would love to see SplurdLink rise again to include comics, music and games. The main idea is that everything we build here will work together with everything else.
We'll get the message board up as soon as we can. If you send us email, please include "Splurd Network" in the subject line so we know you're not a robot.
